ANDREW LINDGREN NAMED NAHL SOUTH STAR OF THE WEEK

Feb 23, 2015

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – The North American Hockey League (NAHL) has announced that Corpus Christi IceRays goaltender Andrew Lindgren has been named Easton Hockey NAHL South Division Star of the Week. This is the second top weekly honor for the IceRays in three weeks and the first time this season a goaltender has been given the award.

Lindgren, 18, appeared in both games for the IceRays in their two-game set against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees last weekend, playing 37:44 minutes in relief during Friday’s 4-1 loss, stopping all 16 shots faced. In Saturday’s 1-0 (3-2) shootout win over the Killer Bees, the Minneapolis, Minn., native played the entire game plus shootout, turning aside all 26 shots faced in 65:00 minutes plus three of five shots during the shootout. In total, Lindgren saved all 42 shots against during the weekend.

“Andrew’s timing was very good because we needed a lift in goal,” said IceRays head coach John Becanic to NAHL.com. “He played solid and made big saves. When he plays consistent and makes key stops at key times, it really gives us a lift.”

The 6-foot-0, 175-pound goaltender is on pace for a record-breaking season, recording a 19-9-3 record with a 2.82 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage through 33 games played. Lindgren is now four wins away from tying the single-season wins record of 23 set by Anthony Stolarz in the 2011-12 season as well as the career wins mark owned by Stolarz and Ben Myers, which also stands at 23. His point percentage stands at .661, which is also the highest among goaltenders with at least 20 games played.

This is the third top weekly award an IceRays player has received this season. Just two weeks ago, forward Nic LaBurn was awarded South Division Star of the Week following a three-point performance against the Lone Star Brahmas. Forward Wes Michaud was given the honor on Nov. 10, 2014 due to a five-point weekend against the Odessa Jackalopes. In total, the IceRays have now racked up seven weekly awards and two monthly recognitions this season.

The IceRays resume their series against the Killer Bees on Friday, February 27 at 7:30 p.m. from State Farm Arena.
