CORPUS CHRISTI OVERPOWERED BY TOPEKA, 7-1

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Topeka RoadRunners received goals from seven different players and defeated the Corpus Christi IceRays, 7-1, at the American Bank Center on Thursday night.  With the win the ‘Runners improve to 21-8-2 (44 points) while the IceRays fall to 13-18-2 (28 points).

Kyle Hughes scored his second goal of the season in the loss.

Topeka collected the first ten shots of the opening period which led to three first period goals.  The goals from Jordan Davis (7, 5:34), Andrew White (2, 10:06) and Zach Schrotenboer (3, 11:10) gave the ‘Runners a 3-0 lead after one period of play.  Kyle Sharkey had two assists.  Shots were 15-11 in favor of Topeka.

The RoadRunners extended their lead to 4-0 when Nate Milam (20) beat Pheonix Copley at 13:12 mark of the second period.  Corpus Christi pulled one back when Hughes’(2) wrist-shot snuck into the back of the net, 15:50 into the period.  The IceRays outshot the ‘Runners, 15-5.

The third period saw Topeka tally three more times to cap the final score at 7-1.  The goals came from Andrew O’Leary (5, 10:56), Justin Hussar (17, 12:56) and Scott Moyer (1, 18:34).  Topeka finished 3-8 on the power play while the IceRays went 0-8 with the man advantage.  Final shots were 34-31 in favor of Topeka.
