FORMER ICERAY BENEDICT SCORES FIRST COLLEGIATE GOAL

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – Former Corpus Christi IceRay Michael Benedict scored his first collegiate goal this past weekend for the Niagara Purple Eagles as they defeated the #16 ranked Colgate Red Raiders in Hamilton, NY.

With the game tied at one, and just over a minute left in the third period, Benedict  skated in on a 2-on-1 stooting top shelf past the shoulder of Colgate goaltender, Alex Evin giving the Purple Eagles a 2-1 lead late in regulation.

Niagara held on for their first win of the season (1-3-2) and dropped Colgate to a (4-2-1) record.

Benedict spent all last year with the IceRays scoring 24 goals and 20 assists in 58 games with the Corpus Christi IceRays. 

In six games so far this year with the Niagara Purple Eagles, Benedict has one goals and zero assists, along with six penalty minutes.

The IceRays hit the road this weekend for two games against the Wichita Falls Wildcats this Friday and Saturday night.  Coverage on ESPN Radio 1440 begins at 6:50PM with the IceRays pregame show, puck drops at 7:05PM.
