GREAT AMERICAN SMOKEOUT AT THE ICERAYS THIS FRIDAY

Nov 18, 2014

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – The Corpus Christi IceRays will be hosting the Great American Smokeout presented by the Tobacco Prevention & Control Coalition (TPCC) at this Friday’s home match against the Odessa Jackalopes in the American Bank Center. The promotion headlines the final home weekend of the month for the IceRays.

The Great American Smokeout started in 1970 at a Randolph, Mass. event at which Arthur P. Mullaney asked people to give up smoking for one day and donate that money they would have spent to a scholarship fund. Four years later, Lynn R. Smith, editor of the Monticello Times in Minnesota, started the first Don’t Smoke Day in her state. TPCC is designed to prevent and reduce the harmful use of tobacco products in communities across Texas with an emphasis on reduction of youth use.

The first 250 children that come to Friday’s game will receive a foam puck, courtesy of TPCC. Members of TPCC and the Youth Advisory Board will be at the American Bank Center with cessation information, anti-tobacco visuals, information on the Youth Advisory Board, a “No Smoking” pledge banner, and free giveaways. The IceRays will also be promoting videos from TPCC throughout the evening as well as utilizing anti-tobacco facts and personnel for in-arena promotions.

Friday is also Frosty Friday, with $1 beers available throughout the game. Saturday is Caller-Times Family 4-Pack Night, where fans can purchase four tickets, four hot dogs, and four sodas for just $46.

This is the second set of games between the IceRays and Jackalopes and the second time in three weeks. The Jackalopes came to the American Bank Center during Pink In The Rink weekend on November 7 and 8, with the IceRays earning the weekend sweep, 5-1 and 4-2. The IceRays are now 2-0-0 in the season series and have won three-straight contests against Odessa dating back to last season. The IceRays have won three-straight games, while the Jackalopes have lost six-straight games following a 5-4 shootout loss to the Wichita Falls Wildcats on Tuesday.

The IceRays return to action at home on Friday, November 21 at 7:05 p.m. when they host the Odessa Jackalopes in the first of a two-game set from the American Bank Center. Coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on SportsJuice.com, FASTHockey.com, and on 87.7 FM in-arena.
