HAYDEN STEWART EARNS SOUTH DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Nov 5, 2012

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – IceRays goaltender Hayden Stewart has made an impact in the four games he has been with Corpus Christi, helping the team go 3-0-1 in the past four games, including two 43+ save victories this past weekend in Kenai River earning him the NAHL South Division Star of the Week.

This past weekend in Alaska, Stewart stopped 47 shots in a 3-2 victory over the Brown Bears.  On Saturday, the 18yr old netminder put aside 43 saves in yet another 3-2 triumph.

Stewart helped the IceRays kill all eight penalty kill’s they faced over the two game span.

“It was noticeable right away that Hayden is very calm under pressure,” said IceRays head coach Justin Quenneville.  “He has been the big factor for us the last four games and they haven’t been easy places to play.  He plays with a lot of poise.  He is big and covers a lot of net, but he is also very technically sound.”

Prior to joining the IceRays, Stewart suited up two seasons in the USHL for the Muskegon Lumberjacks, playing 13 games, and obtaining a record of 5-7-1, along with a .877 save percentage, and a 3.75 goals against average.

The IceRays are on the road this Thursday and Friday night as they take on the Texas Tornado.  Puck drops at 7:30PM, coverage begins at 7:15PM with the IceRays Pregame Show on 91.1FM KSGR & ksgr.org.
