ICERAYS ADD TEXAN GARRETT HALLFORD

Nov 18, 2016

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – The Corpus Christi IceRays of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) have added free agent center and Texas native Garrett Hallford to the roster, the team announced today. With the signing, the IceRays have reached the 23-man roster cap.

Hallford, 19, joins the IceRays after spending the first 12 games of the season with the Shreveport Mudbugs, recording two goals and three assists for five points with four penalty minutes and a -2 rating. The 5-foot-10, 190-pound center is a NAHL veteran, entering the league during the 2013-14 season with the Port Huron Fighting Falcons as an affiliate player for two games. He earned his first NAHL goal on Mar. 26, 2014 against the Michigan Warriors and his first assist just three days later against the Warriors. In 91 NAHL games, Hallford owns 18 goals and 19 assists for 37 points with 18 penalty minutes and a +14 rating between Port Huron, Keystone Ice Miners, New Jersey Titans, and Shreveport.

He also played 18 games with the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the United States Hockey League (USHL) during the 2014-15 season, recording three assists with a -3 rating. He was drafted 174th overall (11th Round) by Muskegon in the 2014 USHL Entry Draft.

“Garrett is a veteran center with multiple years in the league plus a third of a season in the USHL,” said IceRays Head Coach Brad Flynn. “He has good speed, skills and adds a dimension to our centers that we didn’t have. Any time you can add a 19-year-old veteran that has no off-ice issues, you give your team an opportunity to be better.”

Hallford is also a native of McKinney, Texas, which resides in the upper norther suburbs of Dallas and just east of Frisco. He becomes the first IceRays player from the state of Texas since Nick Felan (Highlands Village) and Jesse Foskey (Southlake) during the 2013-14 season. Hallford is now the seventh player in the last seven seasons to play for the IceRays in his home state, joining William Clark (Dallas), Felan, Foskey, Kyle Hughes (Round Rock), Derrek Schartz (Plano), and Chris Stovall (Grapevine).

Hallford has reported and is expected to play this weekend against the Lone Star Brahmas. He will wear #10. The IceRays and Brahmas face-off tonight at 7:05 p.m. from the American Bank Center.
