ICERAYS ANNOUNCE ROSTER MOVES

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – The Corpus Christi IceRays of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) have acquired defenseman Cody Fleckenstein from the Omaha Lancers (USHL), defenseman Logan Gestro from the Sioux City Musketeers (USHL), and forward Alex Peck of the Victoria Grizzlies (BCHL). In a corresponding move, the IceRays have released goaltender Cullen Barber, forward Dane Johnson, and defensemen Curtis Weyerhaeuser and Trevor Wilhelm.

Fleckenstein, 19, joins the IceRays following an apperance at the Omaha Lancers training camp. Last season, the 6-foot, 177-pound defenseman was drafted 174th overall (11th Round) in the 2015 USHL Phase II Draft by Omaha appeared in 26 games with the Lancers, recording two goals and two assists for four points with 23 penalty minutes and a +2 rating. The Fredonia, N.Y. native also played 16 games with Nichols School (CISAA) prior to joining Omaha, recording five goals and three assists for eight points. Over his three-year career at Nichols School, Fleckenstein recorded five goals and 12 assists for 17 points with 26 penalty minutes through 47 games over three seasons from 2013-16.

Gestro, 20, makes his second appearance in Corpus Christi after spending the 2015-16 season with the Sioux City Musketeers. After being drafted 65th overall (4th Round) by the Musketeers in the 2015 USHL Phase II Draft, the South Lyon, Mich., native appeared in 49 games, recording one goal and five assists for six points with 99 penalty minutes. Following his performance last season, the 6-foot-3, 205-pound defenseman was drafted 64th overall (3rd Round) by the IceRays in the 2016 NAHL Draft. Gestro played 54 games with the IceRays in 2014-15, recording four goals and 21 assists for 25 points with 49 penalty minutes and a -2 rating. He was also named to the 2015 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament to represent the South Division.

Peck, 20, comes to the Coastal Bend after playing 56 games with the Victoria Grizzlies in 2015-16, recording 10 goals and nine assists for 19 points with 38 penalty minutes. Prior to his junior career, the 5-foot-9, 188-pound forward from Williston, Vt., played 66 games over two seasons between Belle Tire U18 and Victory Honda U18 (T1EHL) from 2013-15, recording 16 goals and 29 assists for 45 points with 104 penalty minutes.

The IceRays have released goaltender Cullen Barber, forward Dane Johnson, and defensemen Curtis Weyerhaeuser and Trevor Wilhelm in order to make room on the roster as well as cut the roster to the required 25-man roster by the opening game of the season. The IceRays open the 2016-17 regular season on Thursday, Sep. 15 at 7:05 p.m. against the Wichita Falls Wildcats from the Kay Yeager Coliseum.
