ICERAYS’ COMEBACK FALLS SHORT IN WICHITA FALLS, 5-4

The Corpus Christi IceRays erased a three-goal deficit in the second period, but could not overcome the Wichita Falls Wildcats and fell 5-4 at the Kay Yeager Coliseum in Wichita Falls, TX on Friday night.  Drew Allen tallied the game-winning goal for the ‘Cats at the 12:57 mark of the third period.

Navarone Copley scored his first goal of the season for the IceRays and Joey Parizek tallied two assists in the losing effort.

Wichita Falls hopped out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Dakota Klecha (8) and Ryan Frost (3) in the first twenty minutes.  Shots favored Wichita Falls, 13-7.

The Wildcats extended their lead to 3-0 with a four-on-four goal from Mac Olson (10) at the 3:32 mark of the second period.  However, the rest of the period belonged to the IceRays as for the second time this season against Wichita Falls, Corpus Christi erased a three-goal deficit. At the 11:01 mark, Michael Benedict (9) snapped a power-play goal home from the high slot to cut the deficit to 3-1.  The score went to 3-2 at the 15:19 mark when Kevin Crowe (3) banged home his own rebound past Tyler Green unassisted.  The scoring was capped at 3-3 after forty minutes when Ben Hughes (5) wristed a shot past Green at the 17:23 mark assisted by Parizek and Cody Milligan.  Shots were 16-8 in favor of the Wildcats.

 

Mikhail Sentyurin (6) put the Wildcats back ahead, 4-3, 2:46 into the third period as he sniped one past Marco Wieser.  The IceRays responded at the 10:36 mark as Copley (1) scored to tie the game, 4-4, off an assist from Parizek.  It would be the last time the game was tied though as the Wildcats got the game-winner two minutes later from Drew Allen (6) to secure the victory, 5-4.  Final shots were 39-20 for the Wildcats.
