ICERAYS CONCLUDE SUMMER HOCKEY CLINIC

Aug 29, 2010

The Corpus Christi IceRays, along with the Corpus Christi Athletic Club are happy to announce that they recently concluded a successful Summer Hockey Clinic for children at the club. The weekly clinic was hosted by former IceRays stars, and current front office members Justin Quenneville and Dave Gilmore.  The IceRays are currently in preparation to begin their first season of play in the NAHL, beginning September 15.  For more information, please call the IceRays office at 361.814.PUCK.

Throughout the off-season, Quenneville and Gilmore hosted the two-hour clinic every Thursday morning at the CC Athletic Club at the corner of Airline and Holly.  The clinic worked with boys and girls ranging in age from 3-12.  The lessons, scrimmages, and games were all played with ball hockey on hard surfaces, both indoors and outdoors at the Athletic Club.  The goal of the clinic was to promote exercise, and the overall health of the youth of South Texas.  Additionally, the clinic helped teach youngsters the rules of hockey, as well as lessons in teamwork and sportsmanship.  The clinic was one of many summer and in-season programs that the IceRays perform within the Corpus Christi community.

“We talk about it all the time.  The support of this community is vital to our team’s success,” said General Manager, Pat Dunn.  “But our support of this community is just as important.  Things like making appearances, talking to students, reading at schools, and hosting hockey clinics can bring us closer to the public and our fans.  It’s something we focus a lot of our attention on, and the relationship we’ve had with the Corpus Christi Athletic Club for several years now helps continue that important process.”

Lisa Gorsline, the President and General Manager of the CCAC was equally as excited about the results from the clinic.  “The Summer Camp program was a great success,” said Gorsline.  “The IceRays really interacted with the campers, and were a great asset to our program. Our campers learned a lot about teamwork and couldn’t wait till they came back the following week. The IceRays definitely played an important role in our summer camp program.”

The IceRays and the CCAC have already begun preparations for their 2011 summer camp program.
