ICERAYS & CPL RETAIL ENERGY PROVIDE MONTHS OF GOODS TO USO

Apr 4, 2013

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – After months of fundraising and events the Corpus Christi IceRays along with CPL Retail Energy proud to deliver three months’ worth of dry goods and office supply items to the USO of South Texas this past week.

"The success that we had with the dry goods collection for the USO comes as no surprise to me, everything that we have done with CPL over the years has always had a tremendous success,” said IceRays general manager Pat Dunn.  “Whether it was our street hockey challenge or a teddy bear toss…it always seems to turn out good. They have been great supporters of the IceRays for many years, hats off to Laurie Ramirez who provides us with her time and guidance throughout those events to make sure that everything is goes smooth."

Last month, CPL and the IceRays hockey team collected three months’ worth of dry goods supplies for the USO’s food pantry during their March Dry Goods Drive.  Rays’ fans were encouraged to bring kitchen goods and office supplies from the USO’s wish list in exchange for a voucher to the March 29th home game against the Odessa Jackalopes.

“CPL Retail Energy appreciates the service and sacrifice of our servicemen and women and is committed to supporting the USO in fulfilling its mission,” said CPL Retail Energy’s new Commercial Director Al King.  “We’re honored to be of help, are thankful to the Ice Rays and their fans for working with us in collecting the needed goods to replenish the USO center, and are proud we could make a difference,” said King.

In addition to collecting the goods at home games, the IceRays and CPL Retail Energy held the USO Street Hockey Challenge in which a truck load of goods was raised as IceRays players battled in a street hockey tournament with members of the Navy, Army, Marines, and Coast Guard.

"USO South Texas is so appreciative of the partnership with CPL and the Ice Rays for building community support for our military and their families. The Dry Goods that were collected will help greatly with our programs… Especially for the weekly lunches we provide free of charge to active duty military," said Nancy Allen, President & CEO of the USO of South Texas.

The IceRays are on the road this weekend for game’s one and two against Amarilo.  Puck drops at 7:00PM both nights with coverage beginning at 6:45PM with the IceRays Pregame Show on 91.1FM KSGR, ksgr.org, ustream.com, and fasthockey.com.
