Mar 6, 2015

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS – The Corpus Christi IceRays (27-19-5) could not come back from a 3-0 deficit, falling 4-1 to the Lone Star Brahmas (34-11-7) on Friday night from the NYTEX Sports Center. The IceRays remain winless on the road against the Brahmas this season and officially drop the season series.

The Brahmas were allowed on their dangerous power play unit early in the contest with a too many men minor penalty against the IceRays. The point-scoring tandem of forwards Sebastian Vidmar and Ludvig Larsson connected on the power play at 2:50 with Larsson netting the tally to put the Brahmas up 1-0. The Brahmas continued to surge in the first ten minutes of the opening frame, but the IceRays would even up the chances by the end of the period.

With a power play carrying over into the second period, the IceRays nearly tied the game early in the frame on the power play, but a tap-in by forward Tanner Lomsnes was waived off by referee Cory Denbeck due to a dislodged net to cancel the equalizer. The second period was also more shot heavy with netminders Andrew Lindgren and TJ Black turning away ten shots apiece.

The third period brought did not start well for the IceRays. Defenseman Anthony Cortese took down Brahmas forward A.J. Vanderbeck and was awarded a penalty shot that he would convert on at 4:09 to double the Brahmas lead, 2-0. At 10:40, the Brahmas tacked on another with defenseman Alexey Solovyev scooting a shot by Lindgren to triple the lead, 3-0. The IceRays did find an answer at 16:37 off a faceoff draw when defenseman Logan Gestro found a seam and beat by Black to give the IceRays an answer, 3-1. With Lindgren pulled and on a late power play, Solovyev launched a home run shot that found the empty IceRays net to make the game final, 4-1.

TJ Black (19-7-4) earned the win, stopping 23 of 24 shots, while Andrew Lindgren (20-12-3) picked up the loss, stopping 21 of 24 shots against.
