ICERAYS FALL IN SHOOTOUT 3-2

 Winona, Minn – In their final preseason game Corpus Christi fell in a shootout to Odessa 3-2 at Saint Mary’s University in Winona, MN. 

Joe Smereck notched the first goal for the IceRays driving the net backhanding the puck past the goaltender.  Assists were credited to Demitry Ernakov and Christian Elsborg.  Michael Dery recorded the second goal with assists from Christian Elsborg and Travis Maxwell.  Joe Ginley scored the only shootout goal for the IceRays.

“The guys came out a little flat early,” said head coach Justin Quennville. “I was proud of the way the guys fought back.  We felt like we outplayed them and out battled them.” The IceRays outshot the Jackalopes 40-25.

IceRays goaltender Kale Robertson stopped 22 of 25 shots.  “He played well, made some big saves,” said Quenville.

With the loss, Corpus Christi went winless in the preseason, while only tallying two goals in as many games.

The IceRays hit the road for the ninth annual NAHL Showcase Tournament in Blaine, MN September 14-18.  All games can be seen on fasthockey.com.  Corpus Christi will play four games before heading back to Texas for the home opener September 23 against the Odessa Jackalopes.
