ICERAYS RECEIVE UNCLAIMED FUNDS FROM STATE

Aug 19, 2010

Earlier this week the Corpus Christi IceRays received a check for over $15,000 in unclaimed property from the State of Texas, IceRays General Manager Pat Dunn announced on Friday.  Searching the website www.claimittexas.org  , Dunn found unclaimed property payable to the IceRays and received a check from the hands of the State Comptroller on Tuesday afternoon at a reception at the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce offices.  The IceRays are currently in preparation to begin their first season of play in the NAHL, beginning September 15.  For more information, please call the IceRays office at 361.814.PUCK.

The website www.claimittexas.org, “provides Texas residents unclaimed property from forgotten bank accounts, uncashed checks, security deposits and utility refunds.”  Dunn said that by searching the site, he was able to recover a large sum of money that could have otherwise gone uncollected.  Upon his receipt of the money, Dunn said he wanted to turn around and reinvest the money in the community.  Among other things, the IceRays are using their newly-acquired funds to assist their community programs and helped create a community relations position for former IceRays intern, Mashari S. Hogan.

“I happened to find that money by searching the unclaimed property website,” said Dunn.  “The money essentially came to us from the community, so naturally we felt the best way to spend it was on the community.  Because of it, we now have a valuable, new employee, and someone to oversee and add to the community relations programs that we have in place.”

Hogan, a graduate of Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, spent the 2009-2010 season with the IceRays where she was a finalist in the team’s “The Intern” contest.  She now accepts a full-time position with the organization in charge of community relations and corporate fulfillment.  “This is quite the story,” added Dunn.  “Mashari did a great job for us last season in The Intern contest and her hard work and dedication paid off and helped us create a full-time job for her.”

The check made out to the IceRays totaled $15,838.21.  The IceRays encourage all of their fans and Texas residents to find out if they have unclaimed property by searching the unclaimed property database through www.claimittexas.org.
