ICERAYS RETURN FROM HOLIDAY BREAK THIS SATURDAY

Dec 25, 2014

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – The Corpus Christi IceRays return to action this Saturday, December 27 as they close out the 2014 calendar year with one game against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees at 7:05 p.m. from the American Bank Center. Tomorrow’s game marks the first time since December 12 that the IceRays take on a North American Hockey League (NAHL) opponent.

In addition to Saturday being the final game of the calendar year, the IceRays will be hosting two promotional events. The team is celebrating local schools and student achievements with a Grades for Blades Night, and the IceRays continue their Saturday special with a Corpus Christi Caller-Times Family 4-Pack Night. Families may purchase four tickets, four hot dogs, and four sodas for just $46.

Saturday is the fifth meeting of the season between the IceRays and Killer Bees, and it’s the third game coming from the American Bank Center. Both teams are even thus far in the season series, going 2-2-0 in their previous four. The IceRays claimed a 4-2 victory in their last meeting on December 3 from the American Bank Center to draw even. Neither team has lost at home this season in head-to-head matchups. This is the first of three-straight games against Rio Grande Valley with the second and third coming as the first games of the 2015 calendar year: January 1 and 2 from State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texas.

The IceRays (15-10-4) can thank both the Wichita Falls Wildcats (21-5-0) and Amarillo Bulls (11-15-3) in aiding their efforts in the standings after their idle weekend. With sweeps by the above teams over the Wenatchee Wild (12-15-5) and Lone Star Brahmas (19-7-2), respectively, the IceRays remain in fourth place in the South Division with 34 points. They maintain their lead over the Wild by five points, and though the Brahmas gained one point in an overtime loss, the IceRays are still within striking distance at six points behind Lone Star for third place. After their split of the weekend, the Killer Bees (10-15-4) drop to seventh in the South Division with 24 points, just one shy of sixth behind the Bulls.

Doors open for Saturday’s game at 6:00 p.m. and opening faceoff takes place at 7:05 p.m. Broadcast coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. with Countdown to Faceoff on SportsJuice.com, FASTHockey.com, and 87.7 FM in-arena.
