Mar 27, 2015

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – The Corpus Christi IceRays (30-24-5) were out matched by the Amarillo Bulls (25-30-4), dropping 5-1 on Friday night from the American Bank Center. The IceRays have now lost four of their last five games following back-to-back home overtime wins just two weeks ago.

The Bulls scored first at 7:03 of the first period with forward Riley Christensen redirecting a shot from defenseman Matt Nehls at the right point to take a 1-0 lead. A second moved across for the Bulls at 11:59 off the stick of forward Cody Gylling to double the lead, 2-0. For the third time in four games, the IceRays were held without a power play chance in the opening period.

Luck did not turn around for the IceRays in the second period. Forward Brad LeLievre gave way to a five-minute power play early in the frame but was helped by his team killing off the call. However, at 13:55, Gylling scored his second of the night to triple the Bulls lead to 3-0 on a wide open slap shot fed by forward Elijah Barriga, who did most of the hard work in drawing IceRays netminder Andrew Lindgren out of position.

The final frame led to another Amarillo goal at 3:51 with forward Will Harrison cashing in to make it four-straight goals and a 4-0 Bulls lead. IceRays forward Wes Michaud scrapped with Bulls forward Trent Dillinger a few minutes later for his first fight of the year. Eventually, the IceRays notched their lone goal at 16:33 with a one-time shot by forward Connor Kelly off a face-off win by forward Mason Krueger to get the IceRays on the board, 4-1. Just second later at 16:57, Harrison claimed his second for the Bulls and moved the lead back to four, 5-1.

Bulls goaltender Anton Martinsson (16-13-1) earned the win, stopping 27 of 28 shots, while Lindgren (22-17-3) dropped his fourth-straight decision, turning away 29 of 34 shots.
