ICERAYS SET FOR “PINK IN THE RINK” THIS FRIDAY

Feb 14, 2012

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Corpus Christi IceRays are preparing for one of the biggest weekends of the year as they host the 2012 “Pink in the Rink” night this upcoming Friday night against their division rival New Mexico Mustangs.

Last year’s event was a great success and this year looks to be as well, however, although a hockey game is taking place, head coach Justin Quenneville understands the real meaning of an event such as this.  “Everyone here in the organization is excited about this weekend’s games and the significance to which the games represent”, Quenneville said.  “Our goal is to obviously compete hard and execute our game plan to give us an opportunity to win, however to have the opportunity to play for a greater cause is always more important.”

The festivities begin at 5:45PM on Friday night as former IceRays players return to play an exhibition game against the Corpus Christi Fire Department.   The first 1,000 fans who enter the building for Friday night’s game receive a free pink IceRays jersey courtesy of Radiology & Imaging.

“We are fortunate to be a part of an organization that annually supports the cause to raising money for so many charitable groups over the course of the year,” Quenneville went on to say.  “But this weekend always brings in a little more hype given the success the team has had in the past.  Every year the organization comes up with new fun and exciting events to get the fans involved in contributing towards such an important cause and this year is no different."

During the game the IceRays will hold a silent auction and the IceRays mascot, Stinger Ray, will be taking donations. After the game concludes and while the post-game skate is going on, the IceRays will auction off the pink jerseys live inside the American Bank Center.  All proceeds from the auction, donations, and silent auction will go to the American Cancer Society.

IceRays assistant coach Chris Mei also views this event as not only a big part of the hockey season, but a great fundraiser as well.  “An event of this nature has significant importance to me.  We look forward to seeing a great crowd and raise as much money as possible, said Mei.”
