ICERAYS SWEEP AWAY NEW MEXICO 8-1

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – The Corpus Christi IceRays scored eight goals for the second game in a row as the swept the New Mexico Mustangs after an 8-1 win in front of 2,037 fans inside the American Bank Center.

Unlike last night, Corpus Christi kicked off the scoring just 1:28 into regulation.  Josh Obregon picked up a rebound in front of the net for an easy tap in, giving the IceRays a 1-0 lead. 

Perry D’Arrisso struck on the power-play 8:55 into the first period with assists from Matthew Weis and Frank Misuraca for his fifth goal of the year to give the IceRays a 2-0 lead. 

The IceRays took a 3-0 lead going into the first intermission as Eric Purcell scored his first goal of the night 9:51 into the game with helpers from Joe Ginley and Payden Mielke.

New Mexico scored the lone goal in the second period pulling within two goals as Eric Fletcher wristed a shot from the point through a screen past Anthony Stolarz to make it 3-1.

Corpus Christi made up for their bad performance last night in the third period by scoring five unanswered goals in the final 20 minutes of play.  Joe Smereck started the scoring 2:09 into the third period to increase the IceRays lead 4-1. 

Eric Purcell scored his second goal of the night and team leading eighth of the year to put the IceRays up 5-1 at the 6:02 point of the period.

New Mexico pulled their goalie with over six minutes left in regulation and Joe Smereck capitalized scoring his second goal of the night making it 6-1 Corpus Christi.

Dmitry Ermakov and Brandon Smith both scored late in regulation to secure the 8-1 victory for Corpus Christi.

Anthony Stolarz stopped 21 of 22 shots in the win.

The IceRays are home Wednesday and Thursday as they host the Texas Tornado.  Both games start at 7:05PM.
