ICERAYS TENDER VETERANS OBSSUTH, REGULA, SCOTT

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – The Corpus Christi IceRays, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), have signed veteran forwards Kevin Obssuth, C.J. Regula and Angus Scott to tender contracts for the 2017-18 season. The three signings mark the final tenders for the 2017-18 season just one day before the 2017 NAHL Draft.

Obssuth, 19, played for the P.A.L. Junior Islanders of the U.S. Premier Hockey League (USPHL) Elite during the 2016-17 season, recording 11 goals and 20 assists for 31 points with 71 penalty minutes through 41 games, finishing second on the team in scoring in his first junior season. The 6-foot-2, 181-pound left winger was previously drafted 305th overall (19th Round) of the 2016 USHL Phase II Draft by the Lincoln Stars after a 31-point season with the Junior Islanders U18 squad. During the 2015-16 season, the Morristown, N.J. product committed to Canisius College for the 2018-19 season, which makes him the third player in two seasons to be associated with the NCAA Division I program.

Regula, 19, played 52 games for the Wichita Falls Wildcats during the 2016-17 season, recording seven goals and 13 assists for 20 points with 97 penalty minutes and a -6 rating through 52 games in his first junior campaign. The West Bloomfield, Mich. native scored his first NAHL point on September 16 (assist) against the IceRays and totaled two goals and two assists for four points versus his new program. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound forward earned a spot on the Wildcats roster after playing the 2015-16 season with Cranbrook-Kingswood Upper School, earning 21 goals and 22 assists for 43 points with 26 penalty minutes through 26 games.

Scott, 20, played 53 games between the Camrose Kodiaks and Spruce Grove Saints of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) during the 2016-17 season, recording 15 goals and 26 assists for 41 points with 51 penalty minutes and two power play goals. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound center finished third on the Saints in scoring and second in assists while helping lead the team to a second-round appearance in the AJHL Playoffs. Through two seasons in the AJHL, Scott earned 30 goals and 48 assists for 78 points with 126 penalty minutes through 112 games from 2015-16 to 2016-17. The Salt Lake City, Utah native also played parts of two seasons with the Lincoln Stars of the United States Hockey League (USHL), earning two goals and two assists for four points through 33 games, which includes 30 games played in the 2014-15 season. He was drafted three times by junior programs: 165th overall (8th Round) in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft (Regina Pats), 71st overall (5th Round) of the 2013 USHL Draft (Lincoln), and 299th overall (19th Round) of the 2016 USHL Draft (Muskegon Lumberjacks).

Obssuth, Regula and Scott all round out the tender signings for next season just one day before the NAHL Draft, locking the final tender number to 11 players on the 30-man protected list. The trio joins defenseman Christian Dahl of the St. Louis AAA Selects (NAPHL), forwards John Moncovich and Brandon Osmundson of the Hampton Roads Whalers (USPHL), defenseman Joey Rosa of the Philadelphia Revolution (EHL), defenseman Kaelan Taylor of the Los Angeles Jr. Kings (T1EHL), goaltender Chad Veltri of the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite U18 (T1EHL), defenseman Chris Wilkie of the Omaha AAA Lancers 16U (NAPHL), and forward Bud Winter of the St. Louis AAA Blues U18 (T1EHL).

The IceRays will complete their 30-man roster with the 2017 NAHL Draft tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. CDT.
