The IceRays have traded forward CJ Regula to the Minnesota Wilderness in exchange for a tender and a 2nd round draft pick.

“It was a tough trade, but Minnesota called us and targeted him to acquire,” IceRays head coach Brad Flynn said. “They made us a great offer.”

Regula is a second-year South Division veteran who brought a big, physical presence down the middle of the lineup and also brought excellence in the faceoff circle on a nightly basis. However, with other centers returning to health and more still being brought aboard via trades, there quickly became a surplus at the position which Minnesota did not have.

The West Bloomfield, MI native will join his former Wichita Falls teammate Isaac Kobienia, as well as former IceRays player and assistant coach Michael Benedict, who is now assisting under Tim Madsen. Regula joins a team in a fairly similar position to the Rays; the Wilderness are fighting to maintain a playoff spot in a very tight Central Division.

“Although CJ’s come in and done a very good job for us in many different roles that he’s filled, we figured it was the best move for our team’s future,” Flynn said. “We wish him all the best.”
