ICERAYS WIN STREAK SNAPPED IN 2-1 OT LOSS

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – The Corpus Christi IceRays (24-15-2-3) extended their point streak to eight games but fell 2-1 in overtime to the Lone Star Brahmas (37-11-1-0) on Friday night from the American Bank Center, snapping their seven-game win streak.

The first two periods were tightly contested and scoreless but did showcase a shift in trend as the game wore on. The Brahmas started with momentum for the first half of the opening period, pinning the IceRays back in their own end. As more time elapsed, the IceRays found their legs and a way through the Brahmas neutral zone coverage to create more opportunities to score.

The first goal did not come until late in the third period. Brahmas forward Carson Kelley was led in on a rush up the left wing, and he sniped a shot off all three posts and into the net at 16:06 to edge the Brahmas ahead 1-0. However, less than one minute later at 17:02, IceRays forward Griffin Loughran centered a pass through traffic that caught forward Jayson DiMizio’s stick and slid through the netminder to tie the game, 1-1. In the final seconds of overtime, a head fake by Brahmas forward Austin O’Rourke opened forward Troy York for a one-time shot from the left circle at 4:53 of overtime to give the Brahmas the 2-1 victory.

Brahmas netminder Max Prawdzik (6-1-0) earned the win, halting 21 of 22 shots faced, while IceRays goaltender Tomáš Vomáčka (14-11-3) was saddled with the loss, stopping 26 of 28 shots. The IceRays finish their two-game weekend with the Lone Star Brahmas on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 7:35 p.m. from the American Bank Center on Heart Night, benefitting the American Heart Association.
