JOHN ROISUM PICKS (D3) UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS

Jul 29, 2013

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Corpus Christi is proud to announce yet another NCAA Ice Hockey commitment as John Roisum will play the 2013-2014 collegiate season with the University of St. Thomas following his only season playing with the IceRays.

The Bloomington, MN native will play close to home with St. Thomas and after two years of junior hockey he will take the next step this season.  “It feels pretty good to finally be considered a college athlete after playing two years of junior hockey,” said Roisum.  “I’ve worked my whole life to be able to make this next step in my hockey career and I couldn't be more excited. I like that St. Thomas is fairly close to home, it will be nice to have my family come watch me play.”

Roisum started the 2011-12 season with the Topeka Roadrunners playing in nine games before heading north to the Jamestown Ironmen where he appeared in 24 games picking up nine points.

Following the season he came back to the South Division in the NAHL as a member of the IceRays where he eventually finished he junior career with a 20pt regular season in 51 games with Corpus Christi while tacking on two assists in four playoff games.  It wasn’t only on the ice though that helped better Roisum.  Off the ice was a big part of the advancement as well.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better junior hockey experience. The IceRays went above and beyond anything I could have wanted,” Roisum added.  “Everything the organization does, they do it with pride. There is a reason they are one of the top organizations in the league. From the front office to the coaching staff everything is done with tremendous professionalism."

It wasn’t just on the ice with early morning skates before practice that helped Roisum mold into an eventual NCAA athlete but off as well.

“Without Coach Quenneville and Worlton I wouldn’t be the player I am today. They pushed me to be my very best every day on and off the ice.  I will take that with me for the rest of my life. I just want to give a big thanks to Coach Worlton for everything he did for me and the defense this year.  For all the extra video he did and coming in early morning to work with us on the ice just shows how dedicated he is in moving his players on.”

The University of St. Thomas is entering their fourth season as a Division III team sporting an overall record of 45-27-6 and finished second in the MIAC Conference behind St. John’s and Roisum is poised to help make another run at the conference title.

“My expectations are very high for St Thomas,” Roisum finished.  “The choice was easy for me and I love everything about the campus and the hockey program. I’m very excited to start playing for Coach Boeser and be a part of such a great hockey school. The MIAC is a great conference with tons of great hockey players so I just want to be able to contribute in any way possible and do what I can to help the team win.”

Roisum marks the 30th NCAA hockey commitment since the IceRays joined the North American Hockey League in the 2010-2011 season.
