NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR ‘THE INTERN’

The Corpus Christi IceRays Hockey Club is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to gain valuable experience in any facet of the sports industry. Whether you are interested in promotions, game operations, ticket or sponsorship sales, marketing, media, broadcasting, or journalism, the IceRays have internship opportunities available.

Entering its third season in 2011-12, “THE INTERN” is a highly competitive internship based on the popular TV show “The Apprentice.” Interns will be given tasks to complete and will then be judged on performance for elimination every few weeks. The last intern standing at the end of the season will win $10,000 dollars.
 

Ideal candidates must be able to work evenings during home games, possess a strong work ethic and have good organizational skills. No sports experience is required. Each Intern will have the opportunity to learn about and work with all departments of the organization.

Interns will be assigned a concentration of duties during their participation in “THE INTERN,” and will work in many different departments.

Concentrations include, but are not limited to:

Promotions/Game Operations– Interns will gain hands-on experience in sports promotion through implementing game night activities and various community and corporate events. Game night responsibilities involve procuring materials and props; implementing exciting and innovative games and contests; coordinating game concepts and special events, such as celebrity appearances and pre- or post-game concerts; overseeing the activities of the Mascot; and assisting with on-ice promotions and fan contests.

Community Relations-The Community Relations Internship will provide the intern with vital experience in the community.  He or she will also have the opportunity to coordinate community and corporate events. These include and are not limited to fundraisers; kids club and season-ticket holder special events; pre- and post-game parties; player supported educational initiatives in partnership with schools in Corpus Christi and the surrounding areas; hockey tournaments and clinics and any other community event sponsored by the IceRays. He or she will also aid in promoting the IceRays Kids Club, scheduling and coordinating player/Mascot appearances; providing support for the weekly radio show; and conducting promotions research to stimulate innovative and exciting promotional ideas for the IceRays.

Ticket/Group Sales- Interns in the ticket and group sales department will have the opportunity to sell single-game, season, and group ticket packages.  They will receive sales training from the IceRays staff and will assist with the implementation of ticket sales strategy.  He or she will learn how to maintain client relationships, assist with customer service, and ticket distribution.

Corporate Partnerships– Interns will procure, close, and maintain existing client sponsorship relationships.  They will work closely with the corporate sales division, coordinating sales meetings, and attending meetings with potential corporate partnerships.

Marketing-Interns will work closely with members of the sales, media relations, and marketing staff to promote various events and games throughout the season.  He or she will pitch design ideas, create flyers, and promote the team through print and radio advertising.  He or she will also assist with the implementation of a comprehensive marketing plan.  This may include extensive social media and grassroots tactics.  Intern will also create and manage logistics for game night materials including press materials and game night giveaways.

Broadcast/Media Relations-The Broadcast /Media Relations internship position will play an active role in the preparation for all home radio broadcasts of IceRays games and coordination with the local and national media. Some of the duties will include organizing the press box, assisting the home and away broadcasters with in-game statistics, researching statistical information on teams and players, coordinating player/coaches interviews with media members, assisting on live broadcast and more.  He or she will also provide live social media updates throughout games.  Opportunities for the right intern may arise for online publications (team and league website, newspapers, journals etc) along with writing the game recap.

School credit is also available with approval of professor.
