IceRays forward Aleksi Peltonen has been named the South Division First Star of the Week, the NAHL announced Monday.

“As an organization, we’re very proud of Aleksi,” IceRays Head Coach Brad Flynn said. “He played big minutes last week. He’s had good success with his linemates in terms of his skill level and work ethic. He’s gotten better each and every week as the season has gone on.”

Peltonen has scored nine points (2 G, 7 A) in five games since returning from the Omaha Lancers in late December. He’s been the centerpiece of the IceRays’ highest-scoring line and has been instrumental to Rylee St. Onge’s five-game goal-scoring streak.

Playing in three games last week—each of which were against two of the league’s top three defensive teams—the University of Wisconsin commit registered a game-winning overtime goal and six assists, as well as a +2 rating.

The 19-year-old Finn has emerged as one of the IceRays’ top playmakers and has been rewarded for his efforts with his first South Division nomination of the season.

The IceRays will host the Amarillo Bulls this Friday and Saturday at the American Bank Center. Puck drops at 7:05 pm both nights. Saturday is City/County Night presented by Citgo; city and county members of the greater Corpus Christi area will receive free admission provided they bring their vouchers to the arena. The games will be broadcast on HockeyTV.com and on YouTube.
