RAYS REPORT #5: MIDWEEK SWEEP

The Corpus Christi IceRays won their fifth straight game as they swept the Texas Tornado during the midweek games inside the American Bank Center.  On Wednesday night, the IceRays beat Texas 3-1, and Thursday completed the sweep with a 2-1 win over the Tornado.  The IceRays are off this week before traveling to Wichita Falls to take on the Wildcats. 

GAME #1 – 10-19-11: Corpus Christi 3-1 TexasEric Purcell kicked off the scoring for the IceRays on the power-play 16:48 into the second period.  Assisting was Mychal Monteith and Anthony Stolarz.  The teams were tied after two periods until the IceRays scored two unanswered goals in the third period on route to a 3-1 win.  AJ Jarosz recorded both of the third period goals, the first 2:25 into the final period of play, the other at the 15:53 mark of the third period on a two on one break with Eric Purcell.  Anthony Stolarz stopped 26 of 27 shots.

GAME #2 – 10-20-11: Corpus Christi 2-1 Texas The IceRays were backed by 39 saves from Anthony Stolarz as they held on for a 2-1 win over the Texas Tornado on Thursday night sweeping the Tornado inside the American Bank Center.  Eric Purcell scored just 1:26 into the first period with assists from Beau Walker and AJ Jarosz to give the IceRays a 1-0 lead.  Corpus Christi struck again in the second period as Brandon Smith made a nice move scoring the eventual game winning goal 3:31 into period number two.  Jack Prince pulled Texas within a goal 12:12 into the final period on the power-play, however the IceRays were able to hold on for the 2-1 win. 

UPCOMING PROMOTIONS:Sunday November 20th, the IceRays return to home ice at 3:05PM as they host Amarillo.  It’s Senior Citizen Night!  Soda, popcorn, and hotdogs are only $1. And it’s the first post-game skate for $5.Also it’s Stinger Ray’s 14thBirthday!  All Mascots are welcome to attend, contact the IceRays front office.

FIRST STAR OF THE WEEK…Anthony Stolarz was named Combat Hockey NAHL Three Stars of The Week.  This past week, Stolarz stopped 65 of 67 shots faced against the Texas Tornado.  Stolarz also assisted in Wednesday night’s game.

IT’S A FIVE GAMER… Corpus Christi currently rides a five game winning streak.  One more win and Corpus Christi can tie the all-time win streak record in Corpus Christi hockey history at six games.  

SWEEP ‘EM UP…The IceRays swept the Texas Tornado this past week for their second consecutive sweep in a row. 

HELPING HAND…Matthew Weis and Dmitry Ermakov continue to lead in assists for the IceRays. Weis and Ermakov lead Corpus Christi with eight a piece. 

WEEK OFF…The IceRays will enjoy a rare off week before returning to action November 2ndin Wichita Falls.  They return home November 20th to face Amarillo. 

STAYING HOT… Eric Purcell is staying hot for Corpus Christi amidst the five game win streak.  Purcell has ten goals and four assists through 14 games this season.  He scored a goal in both the games this past week.
