RAYS’ REPORT #6: ICERAYS SPLIT WITH AMARILLO

Oct 23, 2012

The Corpus Christi IceRays took the first game of the weekend series on Saturday night in OT over the Amarillo Bulls 3-2, then dropped Sunday’s finale with a 9-3 score.  Tonight, Corpus Christi leaves for Fairbanks as they battle the IceDogs this Friday and Saturday night at 10:30PM Central Standard Time.  The weekend after, the IceRays head to Kenai River to take on the Brown Bears on November 2nd and 3rd at 10:30PM Central Time as well.  This will be the first meeting with teams outside of the South Division other than at the NAHL Showcase.

GAME #13 – 10-20-12: Corpus Christi 3-2 (OT) Amarillo – The IceRays caught a break for the first goal of the night when Ryan Chiasson flicked a puck in from the center ice line.  It hopped, catching the goalie Collin Delia off guard, giving the IceRays a 1-0 lead.  The Bulls responded 3:19 after when Geoff Fortman beat Ben Myers to tie the game.  After no scoring in the second, Will Clark scored his first of the year for Corpus Christi with only 3:36 left in the game for the 2-1 advantage.  However, with just 38 seconds left, Amarillo intercepted a clearing attempt by Ben Myers, and wristed a shot by him, to tie the game and force OT.  Just 57 seconds into the extra time, Emil Romig fired a turnaround shot the slipped over the shoulder of Delia to win the game for the IceRays 3-2.

GAME #14 – 10-21-12: Corpus Christi 3-9 Amarillo – Sunday was a different story for Corpus Christi.  Amarillo spoiled the bid for the first win streak of the season.  There was no scoring until 10:42 of the first when Mike Davis gave Amarillo the 1-0 lead.  Gage Christianson then put the Bulls up 2-0.  Joe Ginley gave Corpus Christi life with his second of the year with 1:22 left in the first.  However, the Bulls struck back with just 27 seconds left in the first to regain the two goal lead.  They would score the next six straight in the second period.  The IceRays tacked on two more, one in the second period, and another in the third, for the 9-3 loss.
