RAYS’ REPORT #8: ICERAYS SWEEP; TAKE 7 OF 8PTS IN ALASKA

Nov 4, 2012

The Corpus Christi IceRays remained in Alaska this past weekend to take on Kenai River and came away with four points, sweeping away the Brown Bears 3-2 in both contests.  With the sweep, the IceRays took seven of a possible eight points from both Fairbanks and Kenai River.

GAME #17 – 11-02-12: Corpus Christi 3-2 Kenai River – The Corpus Christi IceRays trailed 2-0 after a period.  However, in the second, Mike Economos scored twice to tie the game 2-2 after two periods.  Then, with 2:21 left in the game, Perry D’Arrisso notched the game winning goal as the IceRays held on for the 3-2 win over Kenai River.  The Brown Bears started the scoring 11:43 into the game when Conor Deal struck for a 1-0 lead.  Kenai River added to the lead with 33 seconds left in the first when Albin Karlsson scored a questionable goal, which seemed to go off the crossbar.  Karlsson’s goal gave the Brown Bears a 2-0 lead.  In the second, Economos picked up his first goal of the night on a loose puck in the bottom of the left wing circle.  Economos broke free and fired the puck up stairs on goaltender Gustaf Johansson to put the IceRays on the board, splitting the lead in half.  Economos tied the game 4:13 later on a pass from AJ Jarosz just as the power-play ended to even the score up at two goals apiece.  In the third, with 2:21 left in the game Perry D’Arrisso went down the right wing and let a rocket go from the top of the right wing circle that beat Johansson over the shoulder to put Corpus Christi ahead 3-2.  Hayden Stewart stopped 47 of 49 shots in the win.

GAME #18 – 11-03-12: Corpus Christi 3-2 Kenai River – The Corpus Christi IceRays added to their win streak on Saturday night by sweeping the Kenai River Brown Bears 3-2 inside to Soldotna Sports Center after a late Eric Purcell goal.  The Brown Bears got out to a 1-0 lead 7:44 into the game when Alex Jackstadt went in on a two-on-one with Dylan MeierGrant Hutton made a move on Meier who slid the puck over to Jackstadt, beating Hayden Stewart.  Corpus Christi struck on the power-play to tie the game as AJ Jarosz centered a pass to Perry D'Arrisso who tapped the pass behind goaltender Sean Healy with 5:37 left in the first.  Only one goal was scored in the second frame and it was Eric Purcell who notched his first of the night.  On a bad giveaway by Sean Healy in net, Purcell picked up and loose puck and went upstairs to give the IceRays their first lead of the night 2-1.  The Brown Bears fought back to even the score with 8:03 left in the game.  Zack Zulkanycz scored his third of the year beating Hayden Stewart in the third.  Like they did the night before, Corpus Christi tallied a goal late in regulation on the power-play for the eventual win.  On a jam in front of the net, Eric Purcell found the loose puck and buried his second goal of the evening assisted by Rudy Sulmonte and AJ Jarosz with 1:58 left in the contest.
