SEASON ENDING BANQUET A SUCCESS FOR ICERAYS

Apr 4, 2012

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Corpus Christi IceRays capped off the 2011-2012 season, and second year in the North American Hockey League with the annual end of the season banquet held at the Corpus Christi Police Officers Association Banquet Hall.

Over 200 season ticket holders and corporate sponsors packed into the banquet hall for dinner and the awards ceremony. “With the turnout we had last night, it shows the direct passion fans and sponsors hold for their team,” said IceRays head coach Justin Quenneville.  “The support in this community is tremendous, and to have the opportunity to get the entire family together for a banquet is always fun.”

Both Quenneville and general manager Pat Dunn stressed how the organization is heading in the right direction even after being one of the youngest teams in the league.  This year, the IceRays set a record for most wins on home ice in the 14 seasons that hockey has been in Corpus Christi.

Anthony Stolarz highlighted the night by taking three of the eight awards handed out.  Stolarz picked up Rookie Of The Year, Fan Favorite, along with the team MVP

IceRays captain Frank Misuraca, who recently committed to play next season at (D1) University of Alabama-Huntsville, was awarded Defensemen Of The Year for the IceRays.

The Unsung Hero Award is given to the player who goes above and beyond the call of duty on the ice.  Danny Fetzer, who was vital on the penalty kill was extended the honor.

Community Relations is also a big part of the year as well.  The IceRays pay back the fans throughout the entire season.  This year, Greg Chapman scooped up the Community Relations Award by volunteering for almost every appearance.

The Top Goal Scorer was Eric Purcell, who led the team with 22 tallies this season, while Beau Walker was this year’s Top Offensive Player, leading the IceRays with 45 points.

The big turnout at last night’s event shows the support the fans have for the IceRays, who finished second in the league in attendance.  “We have the best fans in the league and the support was shown once again last night,” Quenneville added.  “We look forward to building forward in the successes from this past season and continue to head in the direction in which we set the highest standards for on and off the ice. Fans should be excited about next season and should tune in throughout the summer for several major announcements, signings and events.”
