Stars & Stripes Night Returns on Veterans Day

Oct 30, 2017

The Corpus Christi IceRays will honor members of the military and first responders on Saturday, November 11th when they host their 10th annual Stars & Stripes Night, presented by First Title Company, Whataburger, Navy Federal Credit Union and Roto-Rooter. The game will be played against the Topeka RoadRunners at 7:05 p.m. at the American Bank Center.

The event began during the 2008-09 season in large part due to Brent Chesney, CEO of First Title Company, and IceRays General Manager Pat Dunn teaming up with a desire to honor those who protect the Coastal Bend community and beyond. Along with Whataburger, Navy Federal Credit Union and Roto-Rooter, all five organizations have teamed together to organize and support the theme night and its message. Since the event’s inception, it is one of the most popular games to date with an average of over 5,000 fans over the last nine seasons. Last season, 5,154 were drawn into the building and on Feb. 7, 2015, the IceRays set a junior franchise attendance record with 6,965 fans during Stars & Stripes Night.

“When I proposed the idea for the Stars and Stripes IceRays game many years ago, I had no idea how important it would become for our first responders, their families and this community,” Chesney said. “To be able to thank all those who protect us now and in the past, as well as their families by being a part of this Stars and Stripes game is an honor for me individually and for my company First Title Company. To those who we honor, know that you are never forgotten and thank you!”

The IceRays have been delivering ticket vouchers to all first responders, law enforcement officials and military members around the area as a display of gratitude for their continued service and protection of Corpus Christi, Nueces County, surrounding counties and cities, and the United States of America. All members of the military–both past and present–can show their military I.D. at the American Bank Center Box Office to receive free entry into the game.

“I am very honored to have served our great country,” IceRays Assistant Coach Ryan Anderson said. “I am also honored to be a part of the IceRays organization as we honor our veterans.” Anderson served in the U.S. Navy for six years as an Electronics Technician. He completed four deployments: two in the Persian Gulf, one in Djibouti and one in the Black Sea.

The military-themed jerseys the IceRays will wear on both Friday and Saturday night will be available to the public for bidding in the post-game jersey auction immediately following Saturday’s game in Section 112. The IceRays will also be hosting a post-game skate with the players, presented by Braselton Homes, right after both games.

Stars & Stripes Night is also a Family 4-Pack Night. Fans can purchase four tickets and receive four hot dogs and four sodas for just $48. For more information on the evening’s proceedings, contact the IceRays Front Office at 361-814-PUCK.
