THIRD-PERIOD COMEBACK FOILED BY LATE PENALTY IN 4-2 LOSS

Oct 13, 2012

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – It took the IceRays two periods to get the scoring touch back again as they pulled within one strike to even the score at three late in regulation, however, a late penalty shut that comeback down as the Wildcats added an empty net goal late picking up a 4-2 win.

Kyle Bauman notched a power-play goal 14:28 into the first period with assists from Eliot Grauer and Colin Staub to take a 1-0 lead.  IceRays defender Andrew Paras stepped up causing an odd man rush that Bauman converted on.

The second goal of the game was caused by a giveaway from goaltender Ben Myers.  On a dump-in, Myers played the puck right to Patrick Yudez, who centered it onto the stick of Nick Farmer giving Wichita Falls a 2-0 lead after one period.

There was no scoring in the second frame to the IceRays trailed by two goals heading into the final period.

Ian McGilvrey started the comeback for Corpus Christi on a rebound in front of the net assisted by Grebosky and Roisum just 2:41 into the period.

That lead didn’t last long.  Just six seconds later, Bauman was left wide open in front of the net for a tap-in goal, his second of the game, and the Wildcats regained the two goal lead.

Corpus Christi stormed back, at the 9:35 mark when Rudy Sulmonte scooped up a loose puck to the right of goaltender Cooper Cook going top shelf to once again bring the IceRays to a one goal deficit.

A late penalty called by the official put the IceRays down a skater at the 17:27 point of the third.  Corpus Christi was unable to overcome that as the Wildcats tacked on an empty net goal with 34 seconds left in the game.

IceRays goalie Ben Myers stopped 28 of 31 shots in the loss.
