ICERAYS ANNOUNCE DATES FOR 2017 MAIN CAMP

May 22, 2017

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – The Corpus Christi IceRays, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), will continue their roster building process for the 20th Anniversary season at the 2017 IceRays Main Camp on July 27-30 from Fraser Hockeyland in Fraser, Mich.

After the best season in junior franchise history and one of the best all-around performances for the franchise’s tenure in the Coastal Bend, the IceRays are on the hunt for the top talent to continue a new culture of high character and performance in Corpus Christi. Under second-year Head Coach Brad Flynn, the IceRays set 14 different records during the 2016-17 season en route to a hard-fought appearance in the South Division Final while leading the league in attendance for the fourth-straight season, bringing in over 3,000 fans per game into the American Bank Center. The IceRays also surpassed the two million fan mark during the 2016-17 season, becoming the first team in the NAHL to reach that mark and showcasing the strength of the organization as the longest-running franchise in Corpus Christi.

In addition, the IceRays lead the South Division in NCAA commitments through the 2016-17 season with nine players heading to NCAA Division I programs either next year or in the future and also have over 100 players committed to, playing in, or alumni of NCAA Division I & III programs over the last seven seasons along with three players earning time in the NHL and nine playing in affiliated minor professional hockey including the American Hockey League (AHL) and ECHL.

Now, the IceRays want to move forward with higher expectations and bigger results as they evolve into a force within the NAHL.

“We feel that we were extremely close to not only winning the South Division but also the league last season,” said Flynn. “We have unfinished business going into the 2017-18 season. The season starts with Main Camp, and we want that to reflect our team: highly competitive and fast.”

The IceRays return to Fraser Hockeyland for the second-straight season, extending their off-season partnership with the NA3HL’s Metro Jets and former IceRays professional player and junior head coach Justin Quenneville. Quenneville, 32, played four seasons from 2006 to 2010 through the final days of IceRays professional hockey in the Central Hockey League (CHL) then served as an assistant coach in 2010 as well as two seasons as Head Coach from 2011-13. Since then, he has served as the Head Coach for the Metro Jets, taking the organization to a perfect 47-0 record last season and overall a 141-42-6 record with two-straight Silver Cup Final appearances.

The 2017 IceRays Main Camp will be held from July 27-30. The organization will be bringing together eligible returning players from the 2016-17 as well as draft picks, tender signings, invites and registrants to be evaluated in one of the final off-season roster evaluations before the start of training camp and the 2017-18 season.

Registration for the 2017 IceRays Main Camp will be $275.00 and is open to registrants. All forms and information, including camp registration, consent to treat form, international tryout form, North American tryout form, host hotels, and payment are available here. Schedules and updates will be provided throughout the summer leading up to camp. The IceRays will close their roster to the league-mandated 30-man list by the end of Main Camp.
