ICERAYS COMEBACK, FALL IN SHOOTOUT 5-4

Oct 25, 2012

FAIRBANKS, ALASKA – Three separate times on Friday night, the Corpus Christi IceRays completed comebacks to even the score.  In the end, the IceDogs prevailed in a shootout over Corpus Christi 5-4 inside a packed house at the Big Dipper Arena in Fairbanks, Alaska.

The scoring started 1:42 in the game, Duggie Lagrone, on the man advantage, gave Fairbanks the early lead 1-0.

Like they did all night, the IceRays responded in the second period when Brandon Smith went right through the legs of the defender, went in all alone, and beat the goaltender Kevin Aldridge glove side tying the game at one a piece.

AJ Jarosz gave the visiting IceRays the lead 12 minutes into the second period.  Jarosz took a shot from behind the goal line and caromed off the goalie into the net for the 2-1 advantage.

Just as it looked like Corpus Christi would lead heading into the final period, Jayson Angus beat Hayden Stewart on the power-play with 33 seconds left in the period tied the game once again.

The IceDogs came out of the game flying in the third, just 27 seconds into the final period Devin Loe beat Stewart to take a 3-2 lead.

Corpus Christi fired back at the 3:36 mark.  Tommaso Bucci snuck around the defense and picked up the pass from Ian McGilvrey to tie the game once again with his third of the year.

In the back and forth third period, Chandler Madry put the IceDogs ahead again with 6:10 left in the game but that didn’t solve the game.  With 3:49 left in the game, Tommaso Bucci and Ian McGilvrey combined to set up Brandon Berkley with a one timer to force overtime.

After no scoring in overtime, both squads went to a shootout.  The lone goal was picked up by Jacob Hetz to get Fairbanks the extra point.

IceRays goalie Hayden Stewart stopped 29 of 33 shots.
