MICHAUD, KELLY EACH SCORE IN 6-2 LOSS IN AMARILLO

Jan 3, 2014

AMARILLO, TX – Wes Michaud and Connor Kelly both scored for the IceRays but Amarillo put up six goals for the second straight night as they swept Corpus Christi with a 6-2 decision inside the Amarillo Civic Center on Saturday night.

The Bulls were the first to light the lamp in the first period.  Ryan Stevens fired a shot off the end wall behind the net and the puck went right out in front of IceRays goaltender Ben Myers.  Timmy Moore knew it was coming and fired it into the net for a 1-0 Amarillo lead at 8:03 of the opening period.  The other assist was credited to Brett Szajner.

Cody Gylling score a highlight reel goal while Amarillo was on the power-play at 15:15 of the first period.  Gylling took a Brett Szajner pass and went right through the IceRays defense and beat Ben Myers with a wrist shot for a 2-1 lead on the man advantage.  The goal was his 8th of the year and 7th with the Bulls with the only assist to Szajner.

Corpus Christi had a goal called off in the first period that went undetected by the goal judge behind the net of Paul Berrafato that kept the IceRays off the board.

Wes Michaud finally got one that counted for Corpus Christi with just 2:50 left in the first period beating Berrafato for his 7th tally on the season while Malo Ville had the assist for his third point in two games this past weekend.  The Michaud strike split the Amarillo lead in half at 2-1.

In the second period things got physical and Amarillo added a pair of goals to their lead.  At 10:02 of the period, Mike Davis scored on a long shot for his 13th goal of the year and 36th point overall.  Brendan Vetter and Roman Ammirato picked up both assists on the Davis goal which gave Amarillo a 3-1 lead.

While the IceRays were on the power-play, the Bulls forced a turnover on a breakout attempt and Kyle Gattelaro hit Brady Ferguson with a centering pass and Ferguson one-timed it by Myers for a short-handed goal and a 4-1 lead with 7:53 left in the second period.  For Ferguson it was his 9th on the 2013-14 season.  After two periods the Bulls were outshooting Corpus Christi 27-18.

In the third period Corpus Christi once again split the Amarillo lead in half on the power-play.  Connor Kelly located a rebound and slapped it by Paul Berrafato.  The shot was taken at the point by Jesse Shelton with the other assist going to Luke Bennett.  It was Kelly’s second tally since joining the IceRays and brought the deficit to 4-2.

In the end Cody Gylling notched his second goal of the game at 8:47 of the third period assisted by Mitchell Vanderburgh and Joe Grabowski increasing Amarillo’s lead to 5-2.  The final goal of the game for the Bulls was batted into the net by Kyle Gattelaro making the lead 6-2 for Amarillo.
