RAYS REPORT #19: ICERAYS TAKE TWO OF THREE GAMES

The Corpus Christi IceRays took two of three games this past weekend over division foes.  On Thursday night, Corpus Christi solved goaltender Matt Leon with a decisive victory over Wichita Falls.  On Friday night, Frank Misuraca scored the overtime winner for the IceRays second win in a row.  Saturday night was a different story after the IceRays traveled overnight, the Odessa Jackalopes beat Corpus Christi 6-1 inside the Ector County Coliseum.       

GAME #1 – 01-26-12: Corpus Christi 5-2 Wichita Falls – Wildcats goaltender Matt Leon had been a nuisance for Corpus Christi all season long until Thursday night when the IceRays put five goals up for a 5-2 victory.  The scoring got started by the Wildcats 7:41 into the game as Patrick Yudez beat Anthony Stolarz for a 1-0 advantage.  Corpus Christi tied the game at the end of the first period on a nice individual effort by Perry D’Arrisso with just 4:38 remaining in the period.  The IceRays scored four straight goals in the second period courtesy of Beau Walker, AJ Jarosz, Joe Smereck, and Eric Purcell that gave Corpus Christi a 5-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.  Wichita Falls added a goal in the third period however the IceRays held on to the three goal lead and the 5-2 victory.  

 

GAME #2 – 01-27-12: Corpus Christi 4-3 (OT) Wichita Falls – The IceRays were off to a hot start after 20 minutes of action inside the American Bank Center as Brandon Smith and Eric Purcell combined for a 2-0 lead.  AJ Jarosz added a tally in the second period increasing the IceRays lead to three goals.  However, in the third period Wichita Falls scored three consecutive goals to force overtime.  Frank Misuraca scored on a shot from the point through a screen in overtime for the 4-3 win.

 

GAME #3 – 01-28-12: Corpus Christi 1-6 Odessa– After the IceRays traveled overnight across Texas they faced the Odessa Jackalopes. The IceRays put Sean Keating in net and he did not disappoint stopped all the shots he faced in the first period as both teams were scoreless.  In the second period the Jackalopes broke out for three goals until Danny Fetzer put the IceRays on the board with only 2:34 left in the second period.  However, in the third, the Jacks’ put three more goals up for a 6-1 win.

TIED AT THE TOP…With the strong weekend, AJ Jarosz tied Beau Walker for first place on the team in points with 10 goals and 19 assists.

MATT LEON IS SOLVED…The IceRays figured out Matt Leon on Thursday night as they handled the Wildcats easily 5-2 inside the American Bank Center.  It was the first win over Wichita Falls since December 30th. 

TOP PROSPECTS TOURNEY…Five IceRays have been honored by the NAHL with the opportunity to play in the Top Prospects Tournament.  Perry D’Arrisso, Anthony Stolarz, Brandon Smith, Frank Misuraca, and Beau Walker all were selected.

GOOD IMPRESSION…The IceRays started Sean Keating on Saturday night in Odessa and he handled the pressure stopping every shot he faced in the first period. 

TOPEKA TIME…The IceRays will face the Roadrunners this Wednesday and Thursday night before returning home next weekend against Wichita Falls.
