RAYS’ REPORT #20: LOOKING TO BOUNCE BACK AT HOME

Feb 6, 2012

Corpus Christi looks to turn things around these next two weeks as they return home for the next four games against Wichita Falls and New Mexico.  The IceRays sit just six points in front of fifth place Odessa for the final playoff spot in the NAHL playoffs.  This past weekend the IceRays dropped two games to the Topeka Roadrunners.

GAME #1 – 02-01-12: Corpus Christi 3-4 Topeka – The IceRays went down just 13 seconds into the game to the Roadrunners courtesy of Richard Young as he wristed it over the shoulder of Anthony Stolarz for a 1-0 lead.  Phil Pietroniro tied the game just 3:40 later on a shot from the point that found its’ way past Peter Traber.  The Roadrunners scored the next two goals to finish out the first period as Anders Shultz and Brian Christie gave Topeka a 3-1 advantage.  Corpus Christi mounted a comeback to tie the game at three a piece in the third period, however, Topeka scored the go ahead goal with 9:02 left in the game to pick up the one goal win.

GAME #2 – 02-02-12: Corpus Christi 2-8 Topeka – Topeka got off to another hot start and proved why they are one of the best in the league taking a 2-0 lead that included a short-handed goal 4:37 into the game.  Beau Walker notched a goal assisted by Eric Purcell 12:45 into the period to pull the IceRays within a goal.  The Roadrunners scored the next six goals, with Eric Purcell adding a power-play goal for Corpus Christi late in regulation in the 8-2 loss.
