The Corpus Christi IceRays will look to turn things around on home ice this upcoming Thursday and Friday night against the Texas Tornado after dropping two games to the Topeka Roadrunners this past weekend.
GAME #7 – 09-28-12: Corpus Christi 4-8 Topeka – The IceRays hosted Topeka in the home opener on Friday night and got off to the good start they were looking for. In period one, Rudy Sulmonte buried a rebound shot taken by Travis Maxwell to give Corpus Christi a 1-0 lead. Topeka would tie the game until minutes later when Brandon Smith found Alex Vazquez in front of the net taking a 2-1 lead. The second period was all Topeka as they scored seven of the next nine total combined goals. Five of those came in a row during the second period as Kyle Sharkey completed the hat-trick for the Roadrunners. Roman Uchyn and Emil Romig tacked on goals for the IceRays who fell 8-4 on Friday night.
GAME #6 – 09-29-12: Corpus Christi 1-3 Topeka – A short-handed penalty shot would start the scoring off for Topeka on Saturday night. While down a man, Dan Dupell broke in on goaltender Dillon Kelley. Dupell was awarded a penalty shot and converted just 5:33 into the game for a 1-0 Roadrunner lead. Eric Purcell tied the game in period two when he picked up a puck at the top of the hash marks, going top shelf, for his first goal of the season 3:49 into the second period with assists going to Tommaso Bucci and Mike Economos. However, Topeka came back with two of their own, one in the second, and the other coming in period three picking up the win 3-1 over Corpus Christi.
