RAYS’ SPECIAL TEAMS SHINES AGAIN IN 4-2 SWEEP OF BRAHMAS

Sep 27, 2013

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Goaltender Forbes Ploszaj stopped 22 shots and the IceRays piled 47 shots on net, scoring four times to sweep the Lone Star Brahmas 4-2 on Saturday night in front of 2,449 fans at the American Bank Center.

The Brahmas finally got on the board this weekend with a power-play goal in the first period.  Michael Crowley sent a pass out to the point and Paul Fregeau fired a low shot that found a way by IceRays goaltender Forbes Ploszaj for a 1-0 lead, his 2nd on the season came at the 9:55 mark.

Corpus Christi answered late in the period with a power-play goal of their own.  Grant Hutton found a seam in the defense and let a shot go that Eric Purcell deflected by Brahmas netminder Sean Keating tying the game at one goal a piece with just 1:19 left in the period.  It was Purcell’s 5th tally of the year and 3rd on the weekend.  The other assist was credited to Maurin Bouvet.

The IceRays continued the power-play onslaught in the second period as Grant Hutton took a pass from Eric Purcell and blasted a slapshot over the shoulder of Keating just 1:02 into the period for their first lead of the night at 2-1.

Just 24 seconds into the final period, a rebound off an original save by Keating went right to Tony Roisum who buried his 2nd goal of the year to put Corpus Christi ahead 3-1.  The other assists were picked up by Lucas Bennett and Jesse Shelton.

With Keating pulled late in regulation, Todd Koritsinsky wired a shot from the top of the right wing circle through a screen to beat Forbes Ploszaj on the right side.  The goal came with only 35 seconds left in the game to make it a one goal game.

Off the ensuing faceoff, the Brahmas once again pulled their goaltender and Martin Hojbjerg made it once again a two goal lead with an empty net goal at 19:41 of the third to seal the victory and the sweep.

Forbes Ploszaj made 22 saves on 24 attempts by the Brahmas.
