STOLARZ STOPS 44 SHOTS IN LOSS TO ODESSA

ODESSA, TX – Anthony Stolarz stopped 44 of 48 shots as the Corpus Christi IceRays fell to the Odessa Jackalopes 4-1 inside the Ector County Coliseum on Friday night. 

The IceRays struggles continues in Odessa as the Jackalopes led 2-0 after the first period.  Tyler Cayemberg first a shot from the left point that got deflected by Taylor Portner for his third goal of the season 8:25 into the game for a 1-0 lead.

Corpus Christi got a power-play with 2:41 left in the period, however, it was Odessa who capitalized.  Tyler Cayemberg raced up the left wing wall and cut to the front of the net beating Anthony Stolarz for his second point of the night and fifth goal of the year to give the Jackalopes a 2-0 lead.

The IceRays got the goal they were looking for in the second period while on the power-play.  A huge flurry in front of the net was stopped by Odessa goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, however, the puck came out onto the stick of Frank Misuraca who rocketed a shot top shelf on Hellebuyck splitting the Jackalope’s lead in half, 2-1, with 3:22 left in the period.

Phil Pietroniro took an interference call with 2:26 left in the period, followed by a Brandon Smith minor penalty that gave Odessa a five-on-three man advantage.  A shot from the point caused a scrum in front of the net as Jalen Krogman was the last man to touch the puck beating Stolarz to regain a two goal lead for the Jackalopes with just 1:12 left in the period.

Odessa sealed the game up on a Josh Obregon empty net goal to give the Jackalopes a 4-1 lead with just six seconds remaining.

Anthony Stolarz stopped 47 of 48 shots in the loss.

The IceRays host Odessa tomorrow night inside the American Bank Center.  Puck drops at 7:05PM, coverage begins at 6:50PM with the IceRays Pregame Show on ESPN Radio 1440AM.
