THOUGHT’S & PRAYERS TO FORMER OWNER BILL MCBEAN

Apr 7, 2013

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Corpus Christi IceRays would like to send their thoughts and prayers to former owner Bill McBean and his family.  Last week, Bill’s mother, Nona McBean, passed away at the age of 89.

Nona was born and raised in Saskatoon and was a huge hockey fan. She was at all of Bill’s hockey games, even when he was a young boy playing on ponds in the subzero temperatures.  She would tie up skates for him and all of his friends that needed help.  She even took care of their back yard rink.

“On behalf of the IceRays, I want to send condolences to the McBean family,” said IceRays general manager Pat Dunn.  “Bill was great to this organization and we were honored to have him return as one of our 15th anniversary hockey heroes.”

Nona was also a big baseball fan and always cheered for her team, the Toronto Blue Jays. She knew every player and all the stats and at times the family thought she knew as much, if not more than some of their coaches.

She was a strong independent women, with a great sense of humor.  She was very kind, generous, and was one of the few people who knew how to keep Bill in line.

Earlier, Bill published a book “The Facts of Business Life” in which he shared his experiences in the business world.  The book is available on amazon.com.

The IceRays return home for game’s two and three of the five game series this Tuesday and Wednesday against Amarillo.  Puck drops at 7:05PM, coverage begins at 6:50PM with the IceRays Pregame Show on sportsjuice.com, ustream.com, the TuneIn Radio APP, and fasthockey.com.
