Oct 26, 2012

FAIRBANKS, ALASKA – The Corpus Christi IceRays came into a hostile environment in Fairbanks and took three of four points from the defending West Division champions with a 3-1 victory on Saturday night inside a packed house at the Big Dipper Ice Arena.

The scoring started in the second period while on the power-play.  Mike Economos walked in around the defender and found AJ Jarosz wide open in front of the net for a 1-0 lead 9:26 into the middle frame.

Just moments into the third Eric Purcell walked around the defender and beat the goalie one-on-one for a 2-0 lead just 1:09 into the third.

Emil Romig tacked on a goal of his own with a great assist to Perry D’Arrisso.  D’Arrisso went around the defender who pinched to create a 2-on-1.  Romig fired the pass from D’Arrisso past the netminder Steve Perry for a 3-0 advantage with 12:24 left in the game.

Fairbanks struck back and made it a game with 6:38 left in the game.  A shot from the point was last touched by Kyle Lee to pull the IceDogs within two goals.  In the end, the IceRays held on for the 3-1 victory, taking three of four points on the weekend.

Goaltender Hayden Stewart stopped 26 of 27 shots in the win.
