BULLS BLANK ICERAYS FRIDAY

Jan 25, 2019

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Jason Grande tied the NAHL lead with his fifth shutout of the season on Friday night to lead the Amarillo Bulls to a 4-0 victory over the Corpus Christi IceRays in night one of their three-game weekend series at American Bank Center. Grande stopped all 31 shots faced from the IceRays as the Bulls (28-5-2-2) became the first team in the South Division to reach 60 points this season.

Alex Peterson scored twice for the Bulls. The IceRays (20-18-1-0, 41 pts.) were held scoreless for a fourth time this season, with two of those coming at the hands of Grande. The loss was Corpus Christi’s first on home ice since Nov. 17. In the feisty Friday showdown, 98 of the 110 combined penalty minutes in the game came in the final 13:17 of play.

Peterson opened the scoring at the 4:59 mark of the second period, going high-glove on IceRays netminder Brian George, who made 34 saves on the night.

Louis Helsen scored from the left point at 9:12, and on the power play, Nick Anderson fired a rebound past a tangled-up George at 15:05 as Amarillo carried a 3-0 lead into the second intermission.

Peterson scored during 5-on-3 play at 8:14 of the third period to cap the scoring. Amarillo went 2-for-7 on the power play, while Corpus Christi’s only man-advantage opportunity came in the first period and was unsuccessful.
