CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Corpus Christi IceRays hockey team, AmSpec and Buckeye Texas Partners teamed up last month to raise $4,818 for The Purple Door at the IceRays’ “Hockey & Heels” Jan. 26 home game against Amarillo.

The IceRays wore special purple jerseys during warm-ups, sponsored by AmSpec and Buckeye Texas Partners, which were auctioned off at the game. Additional funds were raised through a silent auction on the concourse, plus over $1,000 worth of items such as baby formula, diapers, undergarments and personal hygiene accessories were donated by IceRays fans.

“The IceRays have been a tremendous support for The Purple Door over the years.” said Kellie Addison, Deputy Director of The Purple Door. “Our partnership not only helps with items donated to families who have experienced trauma, but allows the community to come together and take a stand against violence. The support of AmSpec and Buckeye Texas Partners was a wonderful addition to another fantastic, family-centered event this year.”

The Purple Door is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization that supports and empowers individuals affected by family violence and sexual assault through safe shelter and outreach while providing advocacy, education, and resources to create a safe, supportive community.

“The IceRays have been honored to work with The Purple Door of Corpus Christi for a number of years, and each year it seems to get better.” said IceRays President Michael Wood. “With AmSpec and Buckeye Texas Partners coming in, and with all of our generous silent auction donors, this was the biggest year yet. We are already looking forward to continuing the growth for a game next year.”

This weekend, the IceRays return home to the American Bank Center for a Feb. 15-16 set against the Odessa Jackalopes. Puck drop on Friday and Saturday is set for 7:05 PM and tickets start at just $11 for adults and $9 for kids.
