NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas – The Corpus Christi IceRays spoiled the Valentine’s Day party Friday at NYTEX Sports Centre, picking up a 2-1 victory to snap the Lone Star Brahmas’ two-month, 14-game winning streak.
Tyler Orban and Ryan Coughlin scored for the IceRays while Jeremy Forman made 28 saves.
Following two scoreless periods, all three of the game’s goals were scored in the first five minutes of the third period. Orban, the IceRays’ captain, recorded his first career NAHL goal at 1:18. Orban received a nifty pass at the net-front from a falling Ethan Benz and made it 1-0. At 3:53, Evan Carroll sauced a pass from the left circle to Ryan Coughlin, who notched the eventual game-winning goal.
Lone Star’s Sam Brennan scored on a one-timer on the power play at 4:51 to pull the home team back within a goal. The Brahmas pulled goaltender Ludvig Persson in the game’s final 2:11 but failed to tie the game as Forman stood his ground.
The 2-1 final marked Corpus Christi’s first regulation win since Dec. 6 (vs. Lone Star) and Lone Star’s first loss of any kind since Dec. 13 (at Shreveport).
The IceRays and Brahmas rematch Saturday at NYTEX Sports Centre with puck drop set for 7:30 p.m. CT. The two teams will then play a pair of games against each other next weekend in Corpus Christi. The Feb. 21-22 games at American Bank Center start at 7:05 p.m. and the IceRays will wear special throwback jerseys which will be auctioned off after the second night, which is also Heart Night with the American Heart Association.
