AMARILLO, Texas – The Corpus Christi IceRays fell to the Amarillo Bulls by an 8-2 final Friday night at the Budweiser Bull Pen at Amarillo Civic Center. Logan Jenuwine led the Bulls with three points (2+1), including setting a new all-time NAHL single-season record with 56 goals.

The two teams meet again in Amarillo Saturday at 7:05 PM and Sunday at 4:05 PM.

The IceRays did get closer to clinching a playoff berth thanks to Lone Star’s 6-2 win at Topeka. The IceRays’ magic number to secure a playoff spot dropped to three. The magic number goes down by points earned by the IceRays and points not earned by the fifth-place Pilots.

To start the game’s scoring, IceRays forward Santeri Hartikainen picked up his team-leading 23rd goal of the season, scoring from the slot on the power play at 13:21 of the first period. The Bulls responded with 4.1 seconds left in the first period as Jenuwine scored his first of the night.

Amarillo broke the tie with three goals in a 59-second span in the second period. Jake Willets (6:22), Alex Peterson (6:57) and Nick Trela (7:21) found the back of the net to leap the Bulls to a 4-1 lead.

Just past the midway point of regulation, Blake Bennett tried to send a pass to Kyle Moore. The pass was blocked, but the puck bounced back to Bennett, who quickly fired a shot past Amarillo goaltender Jason Grande’s blocker to bring the IceRays back within a pair.

Half of Amarillo’s goals came in the third period. Jenuwine’s record-setting goal was jammed in from the top of the crease at 7:23, then Willets (PP 11:28), Trey Bagwell (12:19) and Brendan West (PP 19:39) increased the lead for a six-goal victory.

The win marked the second time the IceRays allowed eight regulation goals in a game this season, with both instances occurring at Amarillo. The Bulls outshot the IceRays Friday by a 38-33 margin.

The IceRays and Bulls continue their three-in-three weekend Saturday, March 30 at 7:05 PM, with the pre-game show starting 15 minutes prior to faceoff. IceRays games are carried live on Sportsradio Corpus Christi (1230 AM – 95.1 FM – 96.1 FM), HockeyTV and Mixlr.
