BULLS BEAT ICERAYS 8-3 SATURDAY

AMARILLO, Texas – The Amarillo Bulls put together another high-scoring effort Saturday in an 8-3 victory against the Corpus Christi IceRays at the Budweiser Bull Pen at Amarillo Civic Center. The IceRays (26-28-2-1, 55 pts.) had a 2-1 lead early in the second period, but the Bulls (44-7-3-3, 94 pts.) responded with four goals in the frame. Brendan West scored a hat trick for Amarillo, and Jason Brancheau had four points (2+2).

IceRays defenseman Brian Kramer opened the scoring at 15:02 of the first period, firing a shot from the left point that beat Amarillo goaltender Justin Evenson on the blocker side.

The Bulls responded with 65 seconds left in the first period as Jake Willets scored from low slot.

Early in the second period, Santeri Hartikainen registered his 24th goal of the season, giving the IceRays a 2-1 lead at 0:42. But the rest of the period would belong to the Bulls. Brendan West scored twice in a 42-second span, then Gabriel Seger and Ryan Lautenbach found the back of the net as well, as the Bulls brought a commanding 5-2 lead into the second intermission.

IceRays defenseman Tyler Love scored with a slap shot during four-on-four action 8:44 into the third period to get Corpus Christi back within a pair, but the Bulls added three more goals, including two empty-net tallies, to skate to the five-goal win.

The IceRays hold a one-point lead over Topeka, along with one game in hand, in the battle for the fourth-and-final-available playoff spot in the South Division.

Corpus Christi and Amarillo conclude their three-in-three weekend Sunday at 4:05 PM CT with the pre-game show starting 15 minutes prior to faceoff. IceRays games are carried live on Sportsradio Corpus Christi (1230 AM – 95.1 FM – 96.1 FM), HockeyTV and Mixlr.
