TOPEKA, Kan. – The Corpus Christi IceRays begin their 2019-20 campaign tonight–Friday, Sept. 13–at the Topeka Pilots, marking Corpus Christi’s 22nd overall season and 10th in the North American Hockey League (NAHL).

The team has announced its Opening Night roster and broadcast details for the 2019-20 season. The IceRays once again will be road warriors early in the season, playing their first 11 contests away from American Bank Center before the Home Opener on Thursday, Oct. 10.

It will be a mix of familiar and new faces on the bench this season. Al Rooney, a former professional goaltender who joined the team as Assistant Coach/Goaltending Coach midway through last season, enters his first season as Head Coach/GM of the IceRays. He is joined behind the bench by first-year Assistant Coach Shawn Sramek.

Defenseman Kyle Gudme (St. Clair, Mich.) and forward Cameron Knowlton (Kenai, Alaska) are the only two players on the Opening Night roster to have dressed for the IceRays last season, while eight additional players appeared for other NAHL teams.

Gudme, forward Kyle Schroeder (Lincolnshire, Ill.) and defenseman Tyler Orban (Ottawa, Ont./Robert Morris University) have been named alternate captains for the 2019-20 season.

The Opening Night roster includes 26 players: 15 forwards, nine defensemen and two goaltenders. Along with Orban, two other players have already committed to NCAA Division I schools: forward Erik Bargholtz (Appleton, Wisc./Michigan State University) and defenseman Brandon Cimino (New Rochelle, NY/Bentley University). Additional players, including potential returning players, currently in training camp with United States Hockey League (USHL) teams have been protected and could return to the IceRays later this month. Each NAHL team’s roster must be reduced to 23 players by Tuesday, Oct. 1. The 2019-20 junior hockey season includes players born between 1999 and 2003. The IceRays’ Opening Night roster includes nine players born in the oldest-eligible birth year (1999). Players are from the United States, Canada and Slovakia

All IceRays games, home and away, will once again be carried live on Sportsradio Corpus Christi 95.1 FM – 96.1 FM – 1230 AM (KSIX-AM/FM). Fans can also hear the games live for free on the team’s Mixlr channel and app: mixlr.com/icerays, and watch all of the action live on HockeyTV (subscription fee applies). The “Voice of the IceRays” Rob Sanderson returns for his second season on Corpus Christi’s play-by-play. Broadcasts begin with “IceRays Pregame,” including a coach interview, approximately 15 minutes prior to puck drop. New this season, fans can visit Brewster Street Ice House (Downtown Corpus Christi location) for watch parties of all IceRays road games, including drink specials and more.
