ICERAYS TAKE DOWN STEEL THURSDAY

BLAINE, Minn. – The Corpus Christi IceRays kept things rolling Thursday with a 3-1 victory against the Chippewa Steel at the 2019 NAHL Showcase in Blaine, Minn. Ryan Coughlin scored the game-winning goal in the third period, plus an empty-net goal and an assist, as the IceRays improved to 2-0 at the Showcase and an overall record of 3-0-0-1 (7 pts.) on the season.

Corpus Christi’s Erik Bargholtz notched two assists. Goaltender Cal Sandquist made 12 saves in his IceRays debut.

Former Steel forward Kyle Schroeder broke a scoreless tie with his first of the season at the 13:03 mark of the second period. Just over three minutes later, Jacob Dirks tied the game for the Steel.

Two minutes into the third period, Coughlin regained the lead with a power-play goal off a rebound of Evan Carroll’s shot. Coughlin then added the empty-net dagger with 34 seconds remaining to seal the win.

The IceRays limited the Steel to just two shots on goal in the third period and 13 total in the game.

The IceRays continue their trip to the NAHL Showcase with a 7:30 PM CT game Friday against the Minnesota Wilderness. Friday’s game broadcast will be carried on HockeyTV and Mixlr. The four-in-four week then wraps up Saturday at 3:30 PM CT versus the Springfield Jr. Blues.
