ICERAYS BLANKED BY BRAHMAS SATURDAY

Sep 28, 2019

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas – The Corpus Christi IceRays fell 1-0 to the Lone Star Brahmas Saturday night at NYTEX Sports Centre. Brahmas goaltender Cayden Bailey stopped all 21 shots faced to record his first career NAHL shutout. Joey Baez notched the game’s only goal.

Baez’s tally came 6:35 into the second period. Thomas Daskas fed the puck from behind the goal line to Baez, who sent a glove-side shot past IceRays netminder Cal Sandquist.

The IceRays pulled Sandquist in the game’s final minutes in an attempt to tie the game but the Brahmas’ strong defensive effort sealed the home team’s victory.

Sandquist stopped 21 of 22 shots. Each team went 0-for-1 on the power play. The Brahmas (6-0-0-0, 12 pts.) remain the only undefeated team in the NAHL.

Next weekend, the IceRays (3-2-1-2, 9 pts.) travel to Odessa for a three-in-three weekend against the Jackalopes. The two teams then shift to the Coastal Bend for the IceRays’ Home Opening Weekend, Oct. 10-12, at American Bank Center.
