ICERAYS DEFEAT JACKALOPES 3-1 FRIDAY

Oct 4, 2019

ODESSA, Texas – The Corpus Christi IceRays got back in the win column Friday with a 3-1 road win against the Odessa Jackalopes at Ector County Coliseum. Ryan Coughlin, Evan Carroll and Cole Golden scored for Corpus Christi while goaltender Cal Sandquist stopped 20 of 21 shots.

The IceRays have limited their opponents to just one goal in five of their last six games. Friday’s game was the first of six between Corpus Christi and Odessa in a nine-night span.

Coughlin started the scoring at the 8:27 mark of the first period, jamming the puck in from the slot for his team-leading fifth goal of the season. Carroll then doubled the lead by crashing the net just over three minutes into the second period on a rebound of a Shane Bull chance from the top of the crease.

Four minutes later, Michael Sacco scored from the right circle to score what would be Odessa’s only goal of the contest.

Golden picked up his first career NAHL goal 5:42 into the third period with a glove-side shot off a feed from Cameron Knowlton. The Jackalopes pressured in the third period but Sandquist held his ground. Odessa pulled netminder Zach Stern in the final two minutes of regulation but were unable to find any additional scoring.

The game had just one penalty which was successfully killed by the IceRays. Shots on goal were tied, 21-21.

The six-game series between the IceRays and Jackalopes continues in Odessa Saturday at 7:15 PM, and Sunday at 5:00 PM, before shifting to Corpus Christi next week, including the IceRays’ Home Opener Thursday, Oct. 10 at the American Bank Center.
