ODESSA, Texas – The Corpus Christi IceRays notched a season-high six goals Saturday night in a 6-3 victory against the Odessa Jackalopes at Ector County Coliseum. The IceRays (10-9-2-3, 25 pts.) trailed 2-0, and 3-2, but recorded the game’s final four goals to skate to their sixth win against Odessa (7-10-1-1, 16 pts.) this season.
Six different players scored for the IceRays. Ryan Coughlin (1+1), Stephen Kyrkostas (1+1), Tyler Love (0+2) and Kyle Schroeder (0+2) had two-point nights. Corpus Christi outshot Odessa by a 42-32 margin.
Odessa’s Matt Hutton (1:14) and Sam Harris (9:24) scored early to put the Jackalopes up by two in the first 10 minutes of the game. The IceRays cut the Jackalopes’ lead in half at the 16:31 mark when Kyrkostas cut in front and scored his first goal of the season.
Coughlin tied the game, 2-2, at the 6:39 mark of the second period, becoming the first IceRays to score 10 goals this season with a deflection of a point shot from Alexander Tertyshny. Matt Clark regained the lead for Odessa less than a minute later, but Brandon Cimino brought the IceRays back to a tie at 10:26.
Alternate captain Kyle Gudme notched his first goal as an IceRay, the game-winning goal, at 4:54 of the third period. Michael Krupinski was the third consecutive IceRays defenseman to score at 7:12, and Erik Bargholtz added an empty-net goal with 1:21 remaining to secure the three-goal win.
