ICERAYS BEAT JACKALOPES 2-1 SUNDAY

ODESSA, Texas – The Corpus Christi IceRays recorded a 2-1 win Sunday to close a three-game weekend against the Odessa Jackalopes at the Ector County Coliseum. Justin Thompson scored his second game-winning goal in as many nights. Jeff Bertrand recorded two points (1+1) for the IceRays (11-9-2-3, 27 pts.). Corpus Christi’s Cal Sandquist stopped 37 of 38 shots faced from the Jackalopes (7-11-1-1, 16 pts.).

With their second win in as many days, the IceRays passed next weekend’s opponents, the Shreveport Mudbugs, for fourth place in the NAHL South Division.

After a scoreless first period, Odessa’s Vilho Saariluoma lit the lamp 3:25 into the second period.

Later in the frame, the IceRays scored twice in an 88-second span. Bertrand, acquired this week from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, scored his first goal for Corpus Christi, and fourth of the season, with a power-play tally at 17:24. Thompson then notched the game-winner at 18:52 off assists from Bertrand and Kyrkostas.

The Jackalopes pulled goaltender Aaron Randazzo late but were unable to tie the game.

Corpus Christi tied a season-high shot total with 46.

The IceRays are home the next three weekends, including Friday and Saturday against the Mudbugs.
